Field alert
The field alert is for when something happens during the protest: an imminent arrest, an injury, a phone about to be taken.
Triggering it
On the field phone's recording screen, hold the "Alert" button for 2 seconds. As with stopping, a short press does nothing.
The alert is a request sent to the server. It needs a network to go out: if the connection is down, it only goes out once the network returns, if the page is still open.
What it triggers
- The access prepared for this session is activated. The contacts you ticked when creating the session receive access, without waiting for the reminders.
- Your contacts are alerted. They see an alert at the top of their page, with the time of the last images received, and a notification if their browser allows it.
- The time of the alert is recorded in the session and in its log.
Recording continues during and after the alert: do not stop it.
A new alert notifies your contacts again, up to 3 alerts within 10 minutes from the same phone. Beyond that, the phone shows the alert as sent without bothering them again: they have already been notified. The alert only works during the recording window.
What it does not do
It does not call anyone and does not send any text message. It does not notify emergency services or the press, publishes nothing, deletes nothing and does not stop the phone.
The field phone cannot cancel it. You can explain to your contacts, from your account or in person, that it was a false alarm.
On the contacts' side
A contact who receives an alert sees the images as they arrive. In a collective, I'm handling this tells the other members that someone is dealing with it.
A piece of advice to pass on to your contacts: do not call the person's phone. It may be in someone else's hands, and a ringtone can draw attention to it.
Field alert or duress code
The field alert is triggered on the phone, during the protest. It opens the current session to the ticked contacts, leaves the lock unchanged, and is visible on screen.
The duress code is entered on the check-in screen, in the account or on the field phone, afterwards, if you are forced to check in. It shares all sessions from the last 48 hours with your read-and-modify contacts, raises the lock to 30 days on all sessions, and leaves no trace on screen.
